The Ten Commandments of Technology Integration
- Create a vision. (How will technology be utilized, etc.)
- Provide administrative support
- Involve teachers (What training and support do they need, how do they envision integrating technology)
- Provide time (Hands on practice, training, reinforcement)
- Model Teaching Behaviors (What, when, how, and why to use technology)
- Promote Learning Transfer (provide specific recommendations for integration based on what is happening in the classroom – what is successful, what needs work? Make implementation sensible.)
- Focus on real classroom applications (Teachers should not just be trained to use software applications)
- Provide a Technology Coordinator (Onsite support personnel to help when difficulties arise.)
- Provide Equipment and Access (Insufficient access is main reason why technology integration is not successful)
- Let Teachers Play (Allow teachers to borrow equipment, experiment, etc.)
