The Ten Commandments of Technology Integration

  1. Create a vision. (How will technology be utilized, etc.)
  2. Provide administrative support
  3. Involve teachers (What training and support do they need, how do they envision integrating technology)
  4. Provide time (Hands on practice, training, reinforcement)
  5. Model Teaching Behaviors (What, when, how, and why to use technology)
  6. Promote Learning Transfer (provide specific recommendations for integration based on what is happening in the classroom – what is successful, what needs work? Make implementation sensible.)
  7. Focus on real classroom applications (Teachers should not just be trained to use software applications)
  8. Provide a Technology Coordinator (Onsite support personnel to help when difficulties arise.)
  9. Provide Equipment and Access (Insufficient access is main reason why technology integration is not successful)
  10. Let Teachers Play (Allow teachers to borrow equipment, experiment, etc.)
